Tadcaster York Sport Swim Squad membership is open to all swimmers - regardless of  level of ability or disability, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation or any other relevant characteristic. Membership is offered subject to swimmer assessment by the coaches and when space is available in the squad.

Our training programme and our venues are accessible to all swimmers, including those with additional needs and/or disabilities. We collaborate with Tadcaster Stingrays - a squad for swimmers aged 11-25 who have physical or learning disabilities.

Membership

All members at TYSSS are affiliated swim members of Swim England and pay an annual Swim England membership via GoCardless. Swim England membership provides swimmers with insurance.

In addition, swimmers pay an annual membership fee to join as TYSSS Club members. TYSSS Club membership contributes to the coaching costs associated with competitions and administrative costs associated with running the club. A small gala levy is also charged at the point of entry to individual galas. This is to cover the direct admin costs associated with processing entries for a gala and to contribute towards the purchase of poolside passes. Poolside passes are purchased for coaches and team managers necessary to coach, support and safeguard swimmers during competitions (mandatory supervisory ratios are provided by Swim England).  The gala levy ensures that costs associated with a specific gala are more fairly distributed to those swimmers in attendance rather than the whole squad.

Training fees and membership fees do not cover the full running costs of the club. Fundraising activities, external sponsorship from companies and charitable grants all subsidise swimmer costs.

All swimmers Under 18 are expected to have a parent/carer member of both Swim England and TYSSS.

Squad Capacity

The squad size is limited in line with the club constitution. Capacity is limited by pool size, health and safety, swimmer enjoyment and access to pool time. As a result of this restriction, places will be allocated by the coaches after a trial where the coach will assess if a swimmer is ready to join and what sessions can be offered. All notifications of membership will be made by the Membership Secretary / Secretary, in line with the club constitution.

Membership may be declined only for good and sufficient cause. For example, if a swimmer is unable to achieve the entry standards required by the coaches or if a swimmer’s conduct is likely to bring Swim Squad or the sport into disrepute.

Codes of Conduct

The swim squad has codes of conduct that all swimmers, parents, coaches and volunteers are asked to adhere to. You are expected to sign to show that you have read the code and will adhere to the code at all times. A code of conduct declaration is completed every year.

The swimmer code sets out the standards of behaviour expected from all squad swimmers on the poolside, in the changing rooms and when attending galas. Parents should ensure that the swimmer understands the code of conduct.

Swimmers should be aware of when they are using the changing rooms at the same times as members of the public and behave accordingly, particularly at times when young children are likely to be present.

As a member you agree to abide by all club policies.

Helpful Information

for new (and existing!) members.

Training Attendance Expectations

Training attendance is monitored by the coaches; swimmers are expected to commit to attending the majority of their training sessions.

An email should be sent to TadSwimSquad@gmail.com to report an absence.

Gala Attendance Expectations

TYSSS is a competitive swim squad all swimmers are expected to compete in at least 3 galas per season (Sep - Aug). The training programme will be tailored to peak swimmer performance at target meets. All the info you need about galas can be found on the gala calendar page.

Punctuality

All swimmers must arrive promptly for sessions. Swimmers should look to be changed and on poolside 5 minutes before the start of their session. Swimmers should be ready to swim when they appear on poolside (not still putting hats on etc).

It is disruptive to other swimmers if people join a session late and coaches can refuse to let a swimmer join a session if they arrive late.

Summer Break

Each year we have a scheduled 2 week summer break from all swimming to allow recovery for swimmers before the start of the following season.

Annual monthly fees are adjusted to take account of this mandatory two week rest period.

Training Kit / Equipment

Swimmers train in training suits. Your swimmer should not train in a racing suit.

The coaches have core equipment required by swimmers in all training groups. Equipment can be purchased for a number of specialist shops online.

Core training kit:

  • Kick board

  • Pull buoy

  • Hat

  • Goggles

  • Hand paddles
