About Our Training Groups

Tadcaster York Sport Swim Squad (TYSSS) aims to provide suitable training opportunities and coaching for all abilities (subject to the minimum entry requirements), giving high priority to swimmer development and competition.

The squad is split into Training Groups to allow progression, high quality coaching and bespoke training of swimmers with similar training ability and age ranges, providing a development pathway through the squad for swimmers to maximise their potential.

A swimmer progresses at the coaches’ discretion using the grouping criteria. Whilst personal bests and swim speed are taken into consideration, the coaches look at the swimmer as a whole based on their age and development and the coaches’ assessments of abilities, overall work ethic, attendance, attitude to training and competing, discipline and performance potential.

Swimmer progressions and groups are currently reviewed every 6 months but may be done more regularly if deemed necessary or as spaces arise.

As swimmers move through training groups, they may only be invited to certain sessions if they are already doing certain other sessions to enable differentiation in training. A move to a different group may also mean a change in the days of training sessions.

Interim arrangements are currently in place with regard to Strength and Conditioning.

Attendance

TYSSS is a competitive swim squad all swimmers are expected to compete in at least 3 galas per season (Sep - Aug). The training programme will be tailored to peak swimmer performance at target meets.

All the info you need about galas can be found on the gala calendar page.

Training attendance is monitored by the coaches; swimmers are expected to commit to attending the majority of their training sessions.

Summer Break

Each year we have a scheduled 2 week summer break from all swimming to allow recovery for swimmers before the start of the following season.

Annual monthly fees are adjusted to take account of this mandatory two week rest period.

Aside from our seven core squad options, we also welcome:

Vacation Swimmers

Returning vacation period swimmers at the Head Coach’s discretion - pay per session, subject to availability.

Non-training Swimmers

At the Head Coach’s discretion, the Club also supports membership of swimmers who do not train with the Club but have a strong association with the Club (past & future).

Swimmers must swim regularly with a coach approved club/swim programme and may be dual members with another club. Swimmers must compete for TYSSS at regional competitions upwards.
